Police Appeals Tribunal (PDAT)

Police Appeals Tribunal is a Tribunal NDPB sponsored by Home Office. The PAT is a statutory appeal route for police officers. PATs hear appeals against the outcomes of misconduct hearings held under the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 (and, in the case of chief officers, hear appeals from misconduct meetings); The PAT may also be convened to consider appeals from third stage meetings held under the Police (Performance) Regulations 2020. PATs are chaired by a PAT Chair; under Schedule 6 to the Police Act 1996, Chairs of the Police Appeals Tribunal are appointed by the Home Secretary from a list of persons nominated by the Lord Chancellor, who satisfy the judicial appointment eligibility condition on a five-year basis. The role is not considered to be a judicial appointment.
